The Summer Exhibition, held annually, is a celebration of contemporary art and architecture. Both prominent artists, well-known names, as well as new and emerging talents can participate and it provides a platform for the arts community to showcase the artists’ work.
In the main galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, you can browse prints, paintings, photographs and films, as well as sculptures, architecture and more. You can even purchase the exhibits, the proceeds supporting both the artist and the Royal Academy’s charitable activities.
The works selected by the coordinator Yinka Shonibare and a jury of artists, under the theme “Reclaiming Magic”, are over 1,000. The artists exhibited in this 2021 edition are Remi Rough, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Michael Armitage, Jade Montserrat, Hew Locke, Rita Keegan and Alvaro Barrington, as well as works by self-taught artists such as Frantz Lamothe, Bärbel Lange and Marie-Rose Lortet.
